What’s the difference between Front End and Back End Voice Recognition?

Front-end speech recognition is where the provider dictates into a speech-recognition engine. The recognized words are displayed as they are spoken and the dictator is responsible for editing and signing off on the document. This places the burden of documentation creation on the most expensive resource – the physician. Back-end speech recognition is where the provider dictates into a digital dictation system. The voice is routed through a speech-recognition machine and the recognized draft document is routed along with the original voice file to the editor, where the draft is edited and report finalized. This method frees up time for the physician by utilizing editors to edit the notes.

How does Voice Recognition improve time management with EHR’s?

Inputting data into EHR’s can consume a lot of the Physician’s time. If you are looking to reduce the time physicians spend interacting with an EHR, then Back-end Voice Recognition is a solution that should be considered. Average Time Physician Spends Documenting the Encounter: • 4.5 Minutes Point & Click EHR • 3.9 Minutes Front-end Speech Recognition • 1.4 Minutes Back-end Speech Recognition For example: If the physician sees 35 patients in one day, then: • 157.5 Minutes Documenting with a Point & Click EHR • 136.5 Minutes Documenting with Front-end Speech Recognition • 49.0 Minutes Documenting with Back-end Speech Recognition
