Short-term immediate EHR Optimization Solutions
According to a recent study, from the Stanford University School of Medicine, finds that Primary Care Providers (PCP) want three immediate EHR improvements in the short term. The three problems that the PCP’s want fixed as soon as possible are:
- Improve EHR user interface design to eliminate inefficiencies and reduce screen time.
- Shift more EHR data entry to support staff.
- Use of highly accurate voice recording technology that acts as a scribe during patient visits.
Three real-world solutions currently exist that can relieve some of the burdens that the EHR imposes on physicians.
- The interface can be corrected in the short term with a virtual scribe or fast transcription service that will navigate the perplexities of the EHR screens for you.
- Data Entry can be shifted from the Doctor, who average $2.48 per minute, to an Employee that averages $0.64 per minute, or an outside service averaging around $0.24 per minute.
- Voice Recognition is optimized when using a blended approach for dictations. The blended approach gives the physicians the option to use templates, self-edit their own reports and send reports to the editor. Normal templates that require no alterations are real time savers during the physician’s day. Any dication requiring more than 7 minutes of the physicians time should be sent to the editor. Sending to the editor frees up the physicians time to see more patients and shifts the transcription form high-cost labor to a low-cost provider.
